First a recorded delivery letter from Renault with an emergency safety recall on the car. A fault had been discovered on the model which meant the handbrake engaged while driving. I took it in to the nearest dealership as instructed. Every time I mentioned "safety recall" in their reception chamber the staff got jittery in case other customers overheard. So it was an enjoyable visit all in all, they fixed the fault and washed the car. But later that day there was a whooshing sound like a digeridoo and the whole instrument panel blacked out - mileometer, petrol monitor etc. Turns out to be another manufacturing fault "blackdash" as featured on Watchdog. So its back to the dealership for a £100 fixed price replacement and a free hire car while the work is being done. In between I have been at a local garage - they said there was nothing they could do. Cars are becoming so highly computerised and backstreet garages are being edged out. All the software is programmed through the dealership garage. Renault's computer programmers are not going to be getting any prizes for their work on this particular model, the Renault Scenic II. I am just wondering what's next?
